Care Co-ops Needs You!

One of our Activity Providers, Care Co-ops, runs a Food Hygiene Course which ends with a short test. On occasion, students taking the course have difficulties with writing – they may have literary skills issues, or English may not be their first language. In these cases, a volunteer is needed to assist them in taking the test aurally – i.e. reading the questions aloud and assisting the candidate in writing the answer down.

As it is not appropriate for anyone connected with Care Co-ops to assist students with this, as it could be seen to be 'leading' the candidate, the Care Co-ops team is looking for volunteers to help out with reading and writing. A volunteer will be needed once a month at their premises in Brighton General Hospital, off Elm Grove. The test takes around an hour, between 3pm and 4pm. Though a volunteer may not be needed every month, as this is dependent upon how many candidates need to take the test aurally, Care Co-ops would like to have a bank of volunteers they can call on.

This volunteering might interested those thinking of entering teaching, or anyone with and interests in catering or mental health issues.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Care Co-ops in this capacity, please contact James Aldcroft on 01273 267552 or e-mail James Aldcroft for more information.
